Maata Opare is an experienced in-house lawyer in financial institutions with over sixteen years of experience. She began her career in Fidelity Bank as a Legal Officer and worked her way up to become the Head of Legal and Company Secretary. Prior to joining Fidelity, she worked as a Specialist Contract Manager at Santander Private Banking UK, where she provided legal guidance to its offshore entity, share dealing service, and private banking. She also spent six years in the Bank of Cyprus UK, where she played an instrumental role in implementing changes brought in by the Consumer Credit Act and the Payment Services Directive. Maata has also worked in Property Litigation and Product Liability at Hogan Lovells, London.
Maata is a dual jurisdiction qualified lawyer, being a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales and called to the Bar in Ghana. She holds a B.Sc. in Politics and International Relations from the University of Southampton and completed the CPE and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Store Street. Her Post-Call was completed at the Ghana School of Law.
Maata has received several awards for her outstanding contributions and achievements in the banking industry, including the Best Achiever in Legal Services Award in the Banking Category, induction into the Ghana Feminine Hall of Fame, and being named one of Ghana’s Top 100 Inspirational Women. She has also received Honorary Awards for her contribution and support towards the growth and development of young people through the Head of State Award Scheme under the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award scheme and the Business Executive Award for her contributions and achievements in the Ghanaian Banking Industry. Additionally, she was named the Ghana Outstanding Woman in Banking and Finance in 2021. Maata is highly respected for her achievements and is known for her commitment to supporting young people and contributing to the growth and development of the banking industry in Ghana.
