Elsie Addo Awadzi is a renowned Ghanaian international economic and financial lawyer, who has made significant contributions to the financial sector. She received her education from the University of Ghana, where she obtained a law degree and an MBA in finance. She then went on to pursue a Master of Law degree in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University Law Center.

 

Addo began her career in Ghana, where she worked in various capacities for over 20 years, including as a commissioner of Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission for six years. She also served as a Senior Counsel in the IMF’s Legal Department, where she provided advice on financial sector reforms in the context of the IMF’s surveillance, lending, and technical assistance activities.

 

In February 2018, Addo was appointed as the 2nd Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, making her the second female to hold that position. She was appointed by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana. In addition to her role as 2nd Deputy Governor, Addo was elected as Chairperson of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion’s Gender Inclusive Finance Committee in 2020. Her vast experience and knowledge in international economic and financial law have made her an invaluable member of the Ghanaian financial sector.
